Each level builds on the one before. The Red Seal exam at the end covers the full scope of your trade, as set out in the Red Seal Occupational Standard. If you study with Red through your levels, your last exam is not the first time you see that material.

Apprentice Questions
Can I study for a level I have not reached yet?
Yes. Your year and your hours do not limit what you study on Red Seal Hub. Any apprentice can study any level, including the Red Seal material for their trade.
Do I need my hours before I can use Red Seal Hub?
No. Hours matter when your province or territory decides whether you can write the Red Seal exam itself. They do not matter for studying. You can start working toward your Red Seal on day one of your apprenticeship.
Does the practice match my level exams?
Level exams are set by your province, so topics and order can differ from place to place. Red Seal Hub practice is built on the Red Seal Occupational Standard for your trade, the same national standard the Red Seal exam is based on. Pick your level to focus on it, and ask Red about anything from your school notes.
Can I challenge a level exam instead of going to school for it?
In some provinces. In Alberta, for example, apprentices can challenge a period exam to move to the next period without attending that period of classroom instruction, with their sponsor on board, but must still attend at least one period of classroom instruction to finish. Check the rules with your provincial or territorial apprenticeship authority.
