One place to practice

Everything to do with quizzes and exams starts at the Practice hub. From there you pick how you want to practice, and each mode opens its own start page.

There are four ways to practice:

  • Quick Practice: a short, focused quiz of about 15 questions, with no pressure. Good for a daily warm-up.
  • Exam Mode: a full-length practice exam that mirrors the real Red Seal format (125 questions, up to 4 hours, 70% to pass).
  • Review Past Questions: revisit questions from your earlier sessions so you can study your mistakes.
  • Generate Quiz or Exam: build your own set from study materials you upload or pick from your library.

Old /quiz and /exams links now send you to the Practice hub at /practice, so any saved bookmarks will still work.

Start a quick practice quiz

Quick Practice is the fastest way to get going. It is a short quiz of about 15 questions with a relaxed time limit, meant for a quick study session.

  1. Go to /practice and choose Quick Practice.
  2. Confirm your trade. If you study a single trade it is selected for you. If you have more than one, pick the one you want from the list.
  3. Select Start Quick Practice. Your quiz is put together and opens on its own.
  4. Answer each question and read the feedback as you go.

If you already have an exam in progress, starting Quick Practice will take you back to that exam so you can finish it first.

How adaptive practice targets your weak areas

Quick Practice and Exam Mode do not just hand you random questions. They look at your study history and past results to focus on what will move your score the most.

The mix is weighted so most of each session is spent where you need the most work:

  • 60% from your weak areas, the topics you are getting wrong most often.
  • 30% from topics you are improving on but have not mastered yet.
  • 10% from your strong areas, to keep them sharp.

The more you practice, the more the app learns about your strengths and gaps, so your sessions get more personal over time.

Take a full practice exam

Exam Mode simulates the real Red Seal exam so you know what to expect on test day. It is a full-length, timed test you can pause and resume within the time limit.

  1. Go to /practice and choose Exam Mode, or visit /practice-exam directly.
  2. Choose your trade. If you are enrolled in one trade it is selected automatically.
  3. Read the exam details: 125 questions, a 4 hour time limit, and 70% to pass.
  4. Select Start Practice Exam. The timer begins as soon as the exam opens.
  5. Flag any questions you want to revisit, then submit when you are ready.

Make sure you have a stable internet connection before you begin. If you leave partway through, you can return to /practice-exam and resume the exam where you left off.

Build your own quiz or exam

Generate Quiz or Exam lets you create a custom set from your own study materials, from the Red Seal Hub question bank, or a mix of both. It walks you through a few steps: add materials, choose a quiz or an exam, pick how many questions you want, choose your sources, then review before you start.

You can upload PDFs, images, or documents, or pick items you have already saved in My Materials. If you would rather skip uploading, you can choose to use Red Seal Hub questions only.

When questions are generated you can approve, reject, or ask the assistant to refine them before you begin. If no questions are available yet for your trade and chosen source, the app will tell you plainly rather than show filler questions, and you can try a different source or add more materials.

Question generation is still being built out and the number of available questions can vary by trade and source. If a set comes back empty, try Red Seal Hub Questions Only or add more of your own materials.

Review results and track progress

After a practice exam you can open its results to see your score, whether you passed, and a breakdown of how you did.

Your exam history at /practice-exam/history lists every practice exam with its date, trade, score, pass or fail, and time taken. It also shows your average score, pass rate, and a chart of your scores over time so you can see if you are trending up.

For the bigger picture, the Progress page at /progress pulls together your results from quizzes and exams. It shows your overall accuracy, your study streak, total questions answered, and performance broken down by block, topic, and difficulty, along with your current weak areas and suggested next steps.

Aim for 70% or higher in your overall accuracy and on practice exams, since that is the passing mark on the real Red Seal exam.

Coming soon: smart review that times itself to your memory
Coming soon

Right now you can revisit past questions whenever you like. We are building a smarter review mode that decides for you when each thing is worth seeing again, so you spend your time on what is about to slip rather than what you already know cold.

When something is fresh, it comes back sooner. Once you have it down, the gaps between reviews stretch out. You will rate how well you remembered each one, and that nudges when you see it next.

  • A short daily review list built from the questions and topics you have studied.
  • Items you find hard come back quickly, and ones you find easy space out over time.
  • A simple way to rate your recall so the timing keeps adjusting to you.

The idea is steady review in small daily doses instead of cramming the night before. A few minutes a day adds up.

Coming soon: questions with photos and diagrams
Coming soon

Some parts of trades work are about recognizing a component or reading a diagram, not just remembering a fact. We are adding questions that include real equipment photos, schematics, and cross-section views so you can practice the visual side of the trade.

You will also be able to snap or upload a photo of a part or a page from your own materials and have questions built around what is in the picture.

  • Identify components from real equipment photos.
  • Read wiring diagrams, schematics, and cut-away views.
  • Pinch to zoom and tap to enlarge an image on your phone.

Coming soon: exam integrity for higher-stakes practice
Coming soon

Everyday practice stays relaxed and pressure-free. For higher-stakes situations, such as an exam an employer or a program asks you to sit, we are building optional integrity checks so a result can be trusted.

These checks only switch on when the situation calls for it, you will always be told up front exactly what is being looked at, and anything collected is kept private and removed after a short period.

  • Clear notice and your consent before any monitored exam begins.
  • Stronger checks reserved for higher-stakes exams, not your daily practice.
  • Plain, up-front information about what is recorded and how long it is kept.

Your normal Quick Practice and practice exams will stay exactly as they are today. These checks are only for exams where a trusted, verified result matters.
