What the Study Partner is
Red is your AI study partner, built for skilled trades workers and apprentices preparing for the Red Seal. It is a chat where you can ask anything about your trade and get clear, back-and-forth explanations.
Red knows your trade and where you are in your apprenticeship, so it tailors answers to your level instead of giving generic textbook replies. You can talk through a concept, work an example, or ask it to quiz you, all in the same conversation.
Each chat is saved, so you can come back later and pick up where you left off.
Start a chat and ask questions
- Open the Study Partner from the menu or go to /study.
- Type your question in plain language at the bottom, the way you would ask a coworker. For example, "I do not understand hydraulic pressure" or "explain how a relief valve works."
- Press send and read Red's reply. Ask follow-up questions to go deeper or have it explain a different way.
- Start a fresh conversation any time with New Chat to keep different topics separate.
- No need for perfect wording. Ask the way it sounds in your head.
- Use the suggestion pills on the welcome screen for quick starters like checking your progress or quizzing your weak areas.
- You can attach an image or a document (PDF, DOC, DOCX) to a message and ask Red about it.
Use your voice instead of typing
If your hands are busy or you would rather speak, you can talk to Red instead of typing.
- In a chat, tap the microphone button next to the message box.
- Allow microphone access the first time your browser asks.
- Speak your question, then send it like any other message.
Speak clearly at a natural pace and use a quiet spot for the best results.
Hands-free voice quizzes
For a fully hands-free session, Red can read questions out loud and listen for your spoken answer, so you can study while your hands are occupied.
- Go to /quiz/voice to start a voice quiz, or open it from your voice settings.
- Listen as each question and its options are read aloud.
- Tap the microphone and say "A", "B", "C", or "D" to answer. You can also just tap an option instead.
- Hear instant feedback on whether you were right, then move to the next question.
- Replay a question any time if you missed it.
- Tapping answers always works as a fallback if speaking is not practical.
Set your language and voice
Voice mode supports several languages, including English (US, UK, Canada), French, Spanish, and more, so you can listen and answer in the language you are most comfortable with.
- Go to /settings/voice.
- Pick your voice language from the list.
- Adjust speech speed and pick a voice style (Natural, Professional, or Friendly).
- Turn on auto-play to have questions read automatically, and grant microphone access so voice input works.
Use the Test buttons to hear a sample and check your microphone before you start a session.
How Red adapts to your weak areas
Red pays attention to how you do over time. As you chat and take quizzes, it learns which topics give you trouble and focuses your practice there instead of repeating what you already know.
Ask "Quiz me on weak areas" any time and Red will pull together questions aimed at the spots you keep missing. Your readiness view in the Study Partner shows where you stand so you always know what to work on next.
- The more you study, the more targeted your practice becomes.
- Ask Red to quiz you right inside a chat to turn a lesson into practice.
Coming soon: turn any chat into a quizComing soon
Right now you can ask Red to quiz you. We are building a smoother version where the questions appear right inside your chat, so you never leave the conversation.
While you are working through a topic, you will be able to say something like "test me on this" and a short set of questions will pop up in the chat with tappable answer choices.
- Answer right in the chat and see if you got it correct straight away.
- Get a quick explanation after each answer so a wrong guess still teaches you something.
- Questions are drawn from what you were just studying, so the practice stays on topic.
- Your results feed into your progress, the same as any other practice.
This keeps you in the flow: study, test, and keep going without switching pages.
Coming soon: Red learns how you study bestComing soon
Red will quietly notice the way you like to learn and adjust to match, without you filling out any forms.
Over time it picks up things like whether you take in diagrams or written steps more easily, how long your best study sessions tend to run, and the times of day you do your sharpest work.
- Explanations lean toward what works for you, more visuals or more step-by-step text.
- Suggested session lengths match your natural rhythm instead of a one-size guess.
- Study nudges land during the hours you focus best.
- You stay in control: a settings page will show what Red has picked up, and you can reset it or turn it off.
The more you study, the better the fit becomes.
Coming soon: smarter scheduling and a study buddyComing soon
Two bigger additions are on the way to help you stay on track and not study alone.
Predictive scheduling will work out when you are likely to forget something and remind you to review it at just the right moment, spreading the work out so you are not cramming. Set your exam date and the plan tightens up sensibly as the day gets closer.
Study group matching will connect you with other apprentices in your trade, so you can pair up with a study buddy, compare progress, and keep each other accountable.
- Review reminders timed to when a topic is about to slip, not too early or too late.
- A weekly preview of what to study each day, balanced so no single day is overloaded.
- Match with a buddy whose strong areas cover your weak ones, and the other way around.
- Friendly weekly challenges with your group to keep the momentum going.
